We very briefly reference this in the Clarifying and Confirming Article, but wanted to expand a little more on the idea.
Sometimes when clarifying and confirming, the other person will say something I didn't expect or I didn't understand. When this happens, I am not sure how to respond. Minimally, I need to clarify, but sometimes I need to delay the conversation, or at least slow it down. To do this, I use my favorite, all time question (and it isn't even a question)...
TELL ME MORE...
"Tell me more," is the best clarifying statement I have ever used. In fact, when you get to know me better, you will always know when I don't understand something. You will hear me use, "Tell me more."
